When it comes to choosing the best streaming service, there's a seemingly endless supply of apps to pick from. Time and time again, Disney Plus is our best recommendation for families with viewers of every age.

From classic Disney programs to new series developed exclusively for members, Disney Plus has a growing library of titles to stream. Subscribers can watch the studio's iconic animated films, new Pixar movies, and hours of content from "Star Wars" and Marvel franchises. Recent theatrical releases also hit the service after running in theaters, like "Inside Out 2" and "Wish."

Subscriptions start at $10 a month for ad-supported streaming or $16 a month for ad-free playback. You can even opt for a Disney Bundle to save up to 47% on Disney Plus combined with Hulu, ESPN Plus, or Max, starting at $11 a month for the duo and $20 a month for a trio.

If you're still deciding if Disney Plus is right for your streaming needs, we've got you covered. Keep reading to learn more about Disney Plus' features, content, pricing, plans, supported devices, and more.

Disney Plus Ad-Supported (Monthly Plan)

Disney Plus is the top streaming choice for families and fans of blockbuster franchises like Marvel and "Star Wars." This plan features ads and does not support downloads. This is the cheapest tier, although the Hulu bundles are only a few extra dollars a month.

What is Disney Plus?

Disney Plus is an on-demand streaming service created by The Walt Disney Company. Subscribers can watch thousands of Disney movies and shows from all of the studio's brands, including Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and 20th Century Studios.

The service lets members stream content on smart TVs, phones, laptops, tablets, and gaming consoles. Disney Plus also offers multiple user profiles, 4K video support, and other convenient features.

How much does Disney Plus cost?

The Disney Plus price varies depending on which plan you choose. The service costs $10 a month for ad-supported streaming or $16 a month for ad-free streaming. An annual ad-free plan is also available for $160, which means you can get a 16% discount by paying for a year upfront.

There's also an option to buy a Disney Plus bundle with Hulu and ESPN Plus or Max. This bundle with Hulu starts at $11 a month, and the trio bundles start at $20 a month. Subscribing to the bundles can save you more than 40%. You can read more about how to get the different Disney Bundles in our Disney Plus bundle guide.

The Disney bundle is also automatically included with a subscription to any of Hulu's live TV plans. Hulu + Live TV offers access to over 90 channels for a starting price of $83 a month.

Does Disney Plus have an ad-supported plan?

Disney Plus launched an ad-supported Basic plan on December 8, 2022. The plan now costs $10 a month, which is $6 less than the ad-free plan. It's one of the more affordable streaming service options available.

Though the ad-supported plan includes access to the entire Disney Plus library of movies and shows, it lacks features like Dolby Atmos audio support and unlimited downloads.

How do I sign up for Disney Plus?

You can sign up for Disney Plus directly through the Disney Plus website. To start streaming, you only need to create an account by entering an email address and payment method.

Are there Disney Plus gift cards?

Disney Plus gift cards are available in amounts ranging from $25 to $200 in the US. They can be applied toward new or existing monthly Disney Plus and Disney Bundle plans. You can purchase Disney Plus gift cards from the Disney Plus website and retailers like shopDisney, Best Buy, and Target.

Disney previously allowed shoppers to gift an annual Disney Plus subscription for an entire year of service. This option is no longer available in the US, and current gift cards can only be used toward monthly plans.

The streamer also carries the full suite of Marvel's Defenders content, which was initially released on Netflix. Additionally, "Bluey" is available to stream in full on Disney Plus, including both full episodes and minisodes.

Disney Plus also has lots of original programming, including series like "Loki," "Ahsoka," "The Mandalorian," "Ms. Marvel" and "Secret Invasion," as well as movies like "Hocus Pocus 2." High-profile titles that have arrived over the past year include "X-Men '97," a new Marvel show that picks up where the classic '90s animated series left off, "Agatha All Along," a "WandaVision" spinoff of sorts following Marvel witch Agatha Harkness, and "The Acolyte," a Star Wars series taking place before the rise of the Empire.

The service also lets you watch exclusive music content, including concert films and recording sessions from Miley Cyrus, BTS,  Olivia Rodrigo, and Billie Eilish, along with a film version of the Broadway show "Hamilton" and Beyonce's visual album "Black is King." Notably, Disney Plus is the streaming home of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour and Folklore concert movies.

You can find more information about Disney Plus shows and movies below: Does Disney Plus still offer Premier Access? "Jungle Cruise" stars Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

In 2020 and 2021, Disney Plus allowed subscribers to pay an extra fee to stream select movies on the same day they debuted in theaters. This premium option was called Premier Access. Each Disney Plus Premier Access title cost $30 to unlock.

The first movie released via Disney Plus Premier Access was "Mulan," which hit the service in September 2020. "Raya and the Last Dragon," "Cruella," Marvel's "Black Widow," and "Jungle Cruise" all followed in 2021. After a three-month Premier Access window, these movies were added to the regular Disney Plus catalog for all subscribers to stream without any extra fees.

Disney Plus did not release any movies through Premier Access in 2022, and the studio has not announced plans to release any additional Premier Access movies. For now, this release model appears to have been suspended in favor of exclusive theatrical releases.

Who should sign up for Disney Plus?

Disney Plus is an ideal service for Disney fans, whether they're Marvel geeks, "Star Wars" devotees, or animation aficionados. It's especially suitable for families with children who want to watch recent Disney movies and older Disney titles from the studio's vault.

The lineup of original programming has also grown a lot since its launch. Popular shows like "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew," "Andor," and "What If…?" continue to add value, and you'll need to sign up for Disney Plus to watch them.

While there's some content that's more suitable for adults, the app comes with handy parental control features that allow users to set a password-protected rating lock on profiles. The streaming service also has a "Junior Mode," which, when enabled, only shows content suitable for all ages. Similarly, there's a Kid-Proof Exit feature to keep little ones from accidentally navigating away from this mode.

How does Disney Plus compare to other streaming services? Disney Plus remains an affordable streaming option, and it's an especially good choice for families. Shutterstock

Disney Plus compares well to other services, with competitive pricing, features, exclusive originals, and a vast back catalog of content.

While platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video feature a rotating mix of licensed movies and TV shows from different studios, Disney Plus is focused entirely on Disney programming. That means that subscribers can count on a healthy library of classic titles and new monthly releases from the studio.

However, the Disney Plus library is not permanent. Disney removed a selection of titles from its catalog in 2023, including some original shows like "Willow," and it's not clear if they plan to bring them back at a later date. This practice is common on other streaming services, but Disney was previously an outlier that tended to keep its library consistent.

At a starting price of $10 a month, Disney Plus remains competitively priced, and the discounted bundle with Hulu and ESPN Plus adds even more value. Disney Plus is also one of the most generous streaming services in the areas of multiple-device support, profile additions, downloads, and 4K playback.

On the downside, Disney's focus on family-friendly programming does limit the service's appeal to adults. Disney has taken some steps to rectify this by adding a handful of mature Marvel shows, and three R-rated movies to its lineup, but competitors like Netflix, Max, Peacock, and Paramount Plus have a lot more content geared toward older viewers.

Is Disney Plus merging with Hulu? The Disney+ app homescreen, now with Hulu shows like "Shōgun" and "The Bear". Disney

Disney Plus and Hulu are still technically separate services, but as of December 2023, Disney launched a new one-app experience for users who sign up for both platforms using the Disney Bundle. Now, Hulu content is accessible within the Disney Plus app if you're subscribed to both platforms.

To watch Hulu within Disney Plus, just navigate to the Hulu hub in the Disney Plus app.

You can also subscribe to a Disney Plus and Hulu bundle, Duo Basic, starting at only $11 monthly.

Does Disney Plus allow password sharing?

Disney Plus does not allow password sharing and enables users to invite additional members outside their household through a paid sharing feature. Members can add an Extra Member to their account for a monthly fee. It's more affordable than an entirely separate membership at only $7 a month for Disney Plus Basic or $10 a month for Disney Plus Premium.

Is Disney Plus Not Working? Here's How To Fix It

Disney Plus is one of the best video streaming services for both the little and larger people at home. It's bad news when we run into issues, and Disney Plus is not working anymore. Today, we're here to help you with some fixes that could get the popular app up and running in no time.

If you have yet to sign up for the service, you can do so at the link below as part of a bundle with Hulu and ESPN Plus. There are also some ways to get Disney Plus for free, if you want to try that first.

Editor's note: Some of the instructions in this article were generated using a Google Pixel 8a running Android 16, an Apple iPhone 15 running iOS 18.3, and a custom PC running Windows 11. Keep in mind that steps can be slightly different depending on your device.

Error code 83: How to fix it

You might encounter a particular error code 83 when Disney Plus is not working. It's so common that we have written an entire article devoted to that issue. Check out our dedicated post on error code 83.

By the way, there are many other error codes you can get on Disney Plus. Some popular ones include error codes 9, 14, 39, 41, 42, and 73.

Find out if Disney Plus is down Disney Plus not working

    Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority

While not all that common, there is a chance your problem with Disney Plus not working is due to the service being down. When this happens, you will usually get a message that reads "Unable to connect to Disney+," as you can see in the image above.

Before you start messing around with settings and troubleshooting, you should check if this is the case. We suggest using a website like DownDetector. This service takes reports from other users and lets you know if Disney Plus (or any other website) is down. There's even a live outage map to see if the issue is local.

If Disney Plus is, in fact, down, then there is nothing you can do but wait until the team gets it all sorted out.

    Close and reopen the app

If Disney Plus' servers aren't the problem, the first fix you should try is closing and reopening the app. You can close and reopen the browser if you're using a computer. You might also want to try logging out and back into the app. Some go as far as uninstalling and reinstalling the application. All these solutions often iron out any issues you may be having.

How to force close an Android app:
  • Launch the Settings app.
  • Go into Apps.
  • Tap on See all apps.
  • Find and select Disney Plus.
  • Hit Force stop.
  • Confirm by selecting OK.
  • Close an iOS app:
  • Slide your finger from the bottom of the screen up, then hold for a few seconds.
  • The Recent Apps screen will appear.
  • Find Disney Plus and slide the window up to close it.
  • How to uninstall an Android app:
  • Launch the Settings app.
  • Go into Apps.
  • Tap on See all apps.
  • Find and select Disney Plus.
  • Hit Uninstall.
  • Confirm by selecting OK.
  • How to uninstall an iOS app:
  • Find the Disney Plus app. Tap on hold onto it.
  • Select Remove App.
  • Tap on Delete App.
  • Check for updates

Running slightly older versions of an app isn't usually a problem, but it can sometimes create conflicts. Especially when there are more considerable upgrades that include server-side changes. Make sure to check for any updates to the Disney Plus app. If you're using it on a computer, update your browser. Likewise, it makes sense to check for any updates to your hardware.

How to check for Disney Plus app updates on Android:
  • Open the Google Play Store app.
  • Tap on your profile icon.
  • Select Manage apps & device.
  • Hit Updates available.
  • Check if there's an update available for Disney Plus. If there is, tap on the Update button next to it.
  • Alternatively, you can tap on Update all to keep all your applications up to date.
  • How to check for Disney Plus app updates on iOS:
  • Launch the Apple App Store.
  • Tap on your Profile icon.
  • Scroll down, and you'll see a list of apps with available updates.
  • You can either tap on Update next to Disney Plus, or select Update All.
  • Update your Android phone:
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Go into System.
  • Tap on Software updates.
  • Pick System update.
  • Select Check for update.
  • Follow the instructions to see if an update is available.
  • Update your iOS phone:
  • Launch the Settings app.
  • Go into General.
  • Select Software Update.
  • iOS will automatically search for updates. If it finds one, hit Download and install.
  • Try restarting!

This is often the first troubleshooting solution everyone recommends, from professional technicians to the family geek. While it may seem like a silly suggestion, it works most of the time! It's like magic. Give it a try.

How to restart your Android phone:
  • Press the side and volume up buttons simultaneously.
  • Tap Restart.
  • Let the phone reboot.
  • How to restart an iOS phone:
  • Simultaneously press and hold the side and either the volume down or volume up buttons until the power screen shows up.
  • Use the slider that reads slide to power off.
  • iOS doesn't allow taking screenshots of the power menu, so we can't really display these steps with imagery.

    Check your internet connection

Disney Plus not loading could be due to a faulty internet connection. Try testing other apps that require an internet connection and see if they work. You can also launch Google and search for anything. If you're operating over Wi-Fi, you could also try another device. You might find out the problem isn't actually Disney Plus.

Also, check if your Wi-Fi or Airplane Mode settings are on. Those using Wi-Fi or LAN should also make sure the router is operational. You can try restarting the router; there is usually a dedicated button, but unplugging and plugging the device back in works, too.

How to turn off Airplane Mode on Android:
  • Launch the Settings app.
  • Go into Network & internet.
  • Check if the Airplane mode toggle is on. If it is, turn it off.
  • How to turn off Airplane Mode on iOS:
  • Launch the Settings app.
  • Toggle off Airplane Mode.
  • If you're using cellular data on Android, you might want to see if your data connection is on:
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Go into Network & internet.
  • Tap on SIMs.
  • Select your main SIM.
  • Toggle Mobile data on.
  • If you're outside your country or network coverage, also toggle Roaming on (this may incur extra charges).
  • How to check if your iOS mobile data is on :
  • Launch the Settings app.
  • Go into Cellular.
  • Make sure Cellular Data is toggled on.
  • You can also go into Cellular Data Options and toggle on Data Roaming (this may incur extra charges).
  • Clear the cache and data

Cache is usually good, but data can get corrupted, especially once it gets older. It's good to clean the app's cache now and then. While you're at it, it may also be worth deleting the app data, which will wipe all the settings and account info. You'll have to log back into Disney Plus afterward.

    Clear cache on Android:
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Go into Apps.
  • Find the Disney Plus app under See all apps.
  • Tap on Storage & cache.
  • Hit Clear Cache.
  • You can also select Clear storage for a clean start.
  • Clear the cache on Chrome for Windows:
  • On your Windows computer, open Chrome.
  • Click on the three-dot menu button in the top-right corner.
  • Go into Settings.
  • Select Privacy and security in the left-side column.
  • Pick Clear browsing data.
  • Check the boxes to select what you want to delete. I like clearing everything if there are serious issues.
  • Select All time in the Time range.
  • Hit Clear data.
  • You can't clear the cache on iOS apps. The only efficient way to do this is by uninstalling and reinstalling an app, which we already explained how to do.

Is the network blocking Disney Plus?

Are you using a public network or another person's Wi-Fi? This could be the reason for Disney Plus not working. Sometimes, there are network restrictions on certain types of content. For example, it's common to see schools and libraries block streaming services. Or maybe the network's administrator is running parental controls to ensure the kids don't spend too much time watching addictive Disney films.

Talk to the network administrator to find out if any such restrictions exist. If so, the only solution is to ask if they are willing to lift these restrictions. Or switch to data usage if you're using a smartphone.

Try another device Disney Plus logo on smartphone stock photo (2)

    Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority

Reports all over the internet seem to agree that Disney Plus likes some devices more than others. Disney Plus not working on a specific product might be due to many reasons, but temporarily switching to another device seems to do the trick for many users.

For example, it's more common for Disney Plus to crash or suddenly stop working on TVs. If this is the case, try a smartphone. Mobile phones tend to get updates, improvements, and fixes more often. We've also seen issues with set-top boxes in the past, like the Apple TV 4K. If you're using a set-top box, we have guides on common issues with Chromecast, Roku, and Fire TV. Follow them if you're having issues with those popular devices.

    It might be your location

Disney Plus isn't available everywhere! It is geo-restricted and will only play those fantastic films where supported. If you're trying to watch a movie during your trip to an unsupported country, then that's definitely why Disney Plus is not working.

Disney Plus has a page with all the supported countries, so check it out. If this affects you, your solution would be to wait until you're back in a supported country.

Also, people often use VPNs for location and security reasons. Remember that geo-restricted services dislike virtual private networks and often block users when they detect an active VPN connection. Make sure to turn off your if you're using one, then try using Disney Plus again.

You can try restarting the device by pressing the Select and Play remote buttons simultaneously until the device reboots. You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling the Dinsey Plus app. Sometimes, simply logging out and logging back into your Disney Plus account may do the trick.

You should update both the device and the Disney Plus app. If all else fails, though, you should just perform a factory data reset on the Fire TV Stick.

Why does Disney Plus keep buffering and lagging?

There are multiple reasons why Disney Plus can lag or buffer for longer than usual. The most common issue surrounding this is the internet connection being too slow. Make sure to connect to a faster network, or go ahead and use mobile data if your network is congested. It could also be that Disney Plus servers are having a hard time streaming. You can check if there is a Disney Plus outage here.

Still can't figure out why Disney Plus isn't working? Maybe it's time to escalate your problem to Disney Plus. The streaming service has a help center, so seek additional help there. You can find ways to chat or call an agent from there.

Can I Watch The Super Bowl On Disney Plus?

You wouldn't be wrong for thinking Super Bowl could be live streamed on Disney Plus this coming weekend as the Eagles and Chiefs compete in Super Bowl 59. Disney owns many of Fox's assets, including 20th Century Studios and FX Networks. However, when Disney Plus acquired 21st Century Fox back in 2019, it didn't acquire Fox News or Fox Sports, both of which remain under Fox Corporation. That means you won't be able to watch a Super Bowl live stream through Disney Plus, with broadcaster rights owned by Fox Sports for 2025.

Perhaps, come LXI in 2027, when ABC and ESPN will be the official network, we could see Disney Plus get its Super Bowl moment then.

That said, it's certainly still getting some limelight this year. Its 2025 Super Bowl Commercials sees the question "What if?" asked, essentially conveying the variety of content Disney Plus has in its library, from The Simpsons to the latest Pixar hit Inside Out 2, and Hulu sensation Only Murders in the Building.
