Albertsons Rolls Out Subscription Service, Loyalty Program

The retailer is rolling out a subscription delivery service called FreshPass, a free deals and delivery app and the new Albertsons for U shopper loyalty program.

Albertsons is launching a subscription service for unlimited free delivery as one of three new digital offerings.

The  U.S. Grocer is rolling out a subscription delivery service called FreshPass, a free deals and delivery app and the new "Albertsons for U" shopper loyalty program.

FreshPass, an optional subscription service, is integrated into the new Albertsons apps. Available for $99 a year (or $12.99 per month), it offers unlimited free delivery on orders $30 or more; and in select markets, free two-hour grocery delivery and curbside pickup.  The company is offering a free 30-day trial to try the program and perks for subscribers, including 5 percent off select owned brand products. Subscribers will also receive rewards that do not expire and exclusive culinary and wine experiences.

The new deals and delivery app seamlessly integrates both the "Albertsons for U" loyalty program and the FreshPass subscription service. Shoppers can download by store name across Albertsons' 20-plus banners, including Safeway, Albertsons, VONS and Jewel-Osco.

Available for Apple and Android devices, the deals & delivery app also offers an integrated in-store experience. Smart features include a digital wallet and app coupon integration, list builders, and a pay-from-app feature.

The new loyalty program encompasses features of the grocer's previous loyalty program, just for U, and existing members are automatically enrolled. The program carries the name of each respective banner store within Albertsons, depending on which store a customer shops most.

Membership is free, and new members immediately earn $5 off their next in-store or online purchase of $25 or more of qualifying items. After that, members earn points on nearly every dollar spent, and points can be redeemed on groceries and gas. Perks include personalized deals, a free item every month, and a special birthday treat.

Albertsons has been expanding the range of digital services it offers customers in the past few months. These include a partnership with the Fetch Rewards consumer loyalty and shopper rewards app to send its users personalized offers, as well as on-demand delivery programs provided in collaborations with DoorDash, Uber, and Anycart.

Grocery Store Apps Are Changing The Way We Shop, Often Saving Buyers Money

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — From digital coupons to gas discounts, grocery store apps are quickly becoming a go-to tool for savvy shoppers, and the trend is only growing.

Shakeria Hawkins spoke to locals who say apps are now an essential part of their grocery shopping routine.

Grocery store apps are changing the way we shop — local shoppers say they're saving them money

According to a recent survey, more than half of all consumers now prefer shopping at stores that offer a savings app. And it's not just tech-savvy users who are taking advantage.

At an Albertsons location in the Las Vegas valley, shopper Yolanda White says her store's app has become part of her routine.

"The points add up, and whatever I don't use here, I can use at the gas pump," she said. "I've been surprised when I go to the pump and get $5 or $6 off."

Personal finance expert Erica Sandberg says apps like these are popular for a reason: they're simple to use and can add up to significant savings.

"I can see every dollar that I've saved," Sandberg said. "It's great for financial planning because you have it all right at your fingertips."

One of the biggest perks: Real-time price comparisons.

For shoppers loyal to certain brands, that can mean big savings across different stores.

"If you always get a certain brand of cereal, you can immediately check the app," Sandberg explained. "If it's on sale for $2.99 in one place but $3.99 in another, you can instantly compare."

In a recent test, a box of Honey Bunches of Oats cereal was $3.99 on the Amazon shopping app, compared to $6.99 in-store at Albertsons—proving that app users can often score a better deal.

However, Sandberg warns that delivery fees can quickly cancel out online savings if you're not careful.

"Apps tend to work best for larger, regular in-store shopping trips," she said. "Even if you don't use coupons, you're still earning points and building discounts for next time."

Still, not everything translates well to a digital cart. Some shoppers say certain items, like fresh produce, are better picked out in person.

"Usually, the produce, I like to pick out my own," said Desiree Banks.

"I still like to touch, smell and feel," added shopper Debbie Cereus. "And I find other things on sale that I probably wouldn't if I just depended on the app."

Whether you're scrolling through deals on your phone, placing online orders, or walking the aisles, experts agree there's little downside to using an app as part of your shopping strategy.

Albertsons Encourages Healthy Eating With Sincerely Health's ...

Launched in April this year, Sincerely Health's platform, which allows consumers to track their activities, log vitals and medication routine and more, is available in 16 grocery apps, including Albertsons, Safeway, Acme, Jewel-Osco, Shaw's, Tom Thumb and Vons. The app was created with input from healthcare providers and insurance companies and rewards consumers for improving wellness in their life.

The Sincerely Health app will incentivize healthy eating by awarding healthy points to consumers for setting nutrition goals and committing to healthier eating habits like cutting back on fried foods and sweets and cooking at home more. Sincerely Health also provides food recommendations, recipes and articles to help address dietary concerns.

"With the launch of this feature, we are offering real-time nutritional information, both at an item and basket level, making it easy for our customers to make better food choices. As one of the largest food and drug retailers in the U.S. With 24 grocery banners serving local communities, we are committed to improving lives by making wellness solutions more accessible to customers," stated Omer Gajial, chief digital officer and EVP of health at Albertsons in a press release.

The new nutrition functionality will also go towards furthering Albertson's commitment to the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health, where it has pledged to share more than 50m evidence-based nutrition recommendations to customers by 2024 and will launch six health campaigns by 2025 to raise awareness of the MyPlate dietary guidance.

"At the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, we are working alongside our incredible MyPlate National Strategic Partners to meet the goals of the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health and to advance nutrition security. We cannot do this important work alone, but together we can make progress that will change lives and ensure a healthier, more prosperous future for everyone in this country," said Caree Jackson Cotwright, director of nutrition security and health equity for USDA food and nutrition service.
