Samsung Focus Aims To Be Your All-In-One Productivity AppDigital Trends
From Outlook to Newton Mail, there are more than a few productivity apps available on Android that pack a slew of features. Even so, Samsung's Focus app aims to be the one that keeps professionals tied to the company's Galaxy devices.
Announced somewhat under the radar, Focus is an all-in-one productivity app that brings together your emails, contacts, memos, and calendar through a tabbed interface. Universal search functionality within the app helps you find content from all four, with the Focus tab showcasing your major notifications with a card-based interface.
As for more granular features, Focus notifies you whenever a registered keyword pops up in an email or schedule. You can also set individual email senders as priority in order avoid having their messages drown among the others. You can also make meeting requests through email in order to set up conference calls from within the app. In addition, Focus automatically sorts emails and scheduled events in order to better manage prior messages and appointments.
Other tidbits include the ability to sync the app with a PC, as well as a unified email inbox that takes multiple emails from different places. Regarding that latter bit, Samsung notes in Focus' Google Play listing that the app does not operate on cloud servers and that Samsung does not access any of your data, a concern that some have with other email apps.
"Samsung Focus does not operate any cloud servers. It connects only to the actual mail servers," the listing reads. "It stores your account's data on the device, and Samsung Electronics never access any user data."
Since Focus is a Samsung app, you can only download it for Samsung devices. More specifically, your Samsung device must run Android Marshmallow or Nougat. Focus is available as a free download through Google Play.

Productivity services are a dime a dozen, but that hasn't stopped Samsung from releasing their own app that combines email, calendar, and contacts. Featuring a unified view and universal search, Samsung Focus has wide support for a number of consumer and enterprise services.
Just released on the Play Store, the free app is billed as a "unified productivity application." Samsung Focus works with a number of backend services, including IMAP, POP3, and Exchange ActiveSync, to merge various work related items into one interface.

Cards are heavily used to show pieces of information with a universal search feature in the top right and a FAB to start new emails and calendar events.
Four other tabs at the bottom provide quick access to email, calendar, memo, and contacts. The other sections of the app are quite standard, with unified views and other smart features like automatic calendar events being the central focus of the app. A navigation bar also allows users to drill down and show specific accounts.
The app supports the following services, with all data being stored on the device with no cloud component on Samsung's end:
Focus is only available for Samsung devices running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow or higher. It is currently free to download from the Play Store.

Samsung Email Hits 1 Billion Installs On The Play Store

Samsung's email client, if you go by the user reviews on the Play Store, is pretty wonderful. That's not too shabby considering it is one of many apps that Samsung preloads into almost all of its devices that you can't uninstall. Regardless, the app has achieved an exclusive Play Store milestone: Samsung Email now has more than one billion installs.
The last time we kept track of Samsung Email, it was sitting at around 100 million installs in December of 2017, the same year Samsung moved the app to the Play Store. Unlike Samsung's mobile internet browser, the Email app is only compatible with select Samsung devices. That Samsung was able to achieve a billion install of the app is a testament to the market clout it enjoys around the world.
Similar in many ways to other email clients, the Samsung Email app enables users to manage multiple personal and business accounts, with key features such as built-in Exchange ActiveSync (EAS), S/MIME encryption for secure email, spam management, policy administration, and combined mailboxes.
Like many of its other in-house apps, the Email app has adopted the OneUI design, which improves one-handed usage with cleaner visuals. The app is free and available to any Samsung Android device running 8.0 Oreo or higher. Besides the Play Store, you can also download it from APK Mirror.
