How to get Microsoft Word for free - Tech Advisor

Image
Skip to content For decades, Microsoft released major new versions of Word and its other Office apps once every few years. That's when the bulk of new features were added, with security and bug fixes prioritised at other times.  However, that all changed with the release of Office 365 (now Microsoft 365). This subscription gets you Word, Excel, Powerpoint and many other services, all for a single monthly cost. New features are added to these apps all the time, despite Microsoft continuing to make standalone versions. Microsoft 365 is undeniably good value if you use multiple Office apps each month, but it could be harder to justify if you just use Word occasionally.  Fortunately, there are plenty of other options if you're looking to get started with Microsoft's classic word processor. You can access it across

Microsoft quietly released its own undelete utility for Windows 10 - PC Gamer

Audio player loading… Is there anything more horrifying than accidentally, and permanently, deleting important files? Work documents, precious vacation photos, decade-old game saves—data loss can be gut wrenching. Fortunately, it rarely has to be truly permanent, thanks to programs like Microsoft's new Windows File Recovery Tool (opens in new tab) . This is a new addition to the Microsoft Store. It works like other un-delete utilities, in that it scours your disk drive for erased files and attempts to restore them. You can also direct it to scrape an external storage drive (USB or SD). Unlike other tools, though, you don't have to go scrounging around sketchy websites to find it, or pay an upcharge for a premium version. File undelete programs are by no means new, but this is the first one Microsoft has built for Windows 10. Previously, the only option for such a thing would be to install a third-party program, like CCleaner's Recuva utility (opens in new tab)

Windows 10 app development catches up to Windows 11 with rollout of WebView2 Runtime - Windows Central

Image
What you need to know Microsoft recently started rolling out the WebView2 Runtime to consumer devices running Windows 10. The WebView2 Runtime allows developers to embed web content into applications. The developer control is built directly into Windows 11, but has required extra work to deploy in Windows 10 apps up to this point. Microsoft is making it a bit easier for developers to embed web content into Windows 10 applications. Yesterday, June 27, 2022, Microsoft started rolling out the WebView2 Runtime to Windows 10 Consumer devices. This addition aligns app development with Windows 11, which has had WebView2 Runtime support since it was created. Microsoft highlights in a blog post that most general users will never interact directly with the WebView2 Runtime. They will, however, benefit from the fact that developers now have a more straightforward way to deploy the tool. WebView2 is used by a large library of applications, including Microsoft Office. The WebView2 Runtime lets deve

Adobe may be bringing a free version of Photoshop to your Mac - Macworld

Adobe Photoshop has been so influential in the world of media that the name of the app itself is used to generally describe an image that has been edited. But while the name is everywhere, not everyone uses the app, and Adobe is hoping to change that with a new free version. According to The Verge, Adobe is making a "freemium" version of Photoshop on the web that is currently only available in Canada. Users need to sign up for an Adobe account to access the free web version that is missing several features but the core features are accessible. To get the full version, users will have to pay for an Adobe Creative Cloud membership–though Photoshop on the web doesn't yet have as many features as the standalone app. Photoshop on the web is currently in beta, and Adobe is adding more features to it as time goes on. Photoshop on the web works only on either the Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers, and if you try to use an unsupported browser such as Safari, users

Windows 10 Slow Restart and Shutdown - Windows 10 Support - BleepingComputer

Image
Hello! I recently noticed that my PC takes a long time to restart OR shutdown. Booting it up after shutdown is really fast, around 15 seconds. But, when I restart or shutdown the PC it takes around 3-4 minutes. During the process, the blue screen with the spinning circle is visible. I am not exactly sure when this started happening, but I used to be able to restart my PC in well under a minute, boot included. I have tried system restore, disabling fast boot (it was disabled to begin with, but I tried enable-restart-disable-restart), disabling startup items and services... No success. I also checked the event log, especially for 103 and 203 errors and warnings and found none. I'm on Windows 10 Pro 21H2 build 19044.1766 Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!
